A brief overview of industrial printer inks. This includes both large character (English: DOD) and small character (English: CIJ) or inkjet printers. It is important to note that the inks for them can be pigment-based, semi-pigmented, and non-pigmented.
Inks for inkjet printers are divided into several main groups based on the type of solvent present: the most widely used MEK base, which consists mainly of methyl ethyl ketone. The ETHANOL base, which uses ethanol for dilution – most often suitable for contact with food. The ACETONE base, as you might have guessed, uses acetone – these inks are among the fastest drying inks. There are also WATER-based inks, but in Lithuania, they are used only for large character printers.
